Welcome to 10 – 4 Tuesday! This is a forum where I’ll feature an author who will answer 10 questions about their book and a few personal things and then 4 questions for fun 🙂 Today I’m excited to have my wonderful friend Sheri Fredricks visiting.
Sheri will be sharing her 10, followed by her 4 and then an excerpt of her book Troll-y Yours, Book 2 of the Centaur series. 🙂
Before we get started, let’s stop, scroll down and celebrate Sheri’s AWESOME cover with a moment of silence. Before you scroll down, grab a tissue from the sidebar for drool control. And don’t forget to scroll back up here to continue 🙂
Okay, now that we have that taken care of…
Hi Sheri, thanks for joining me for 10 – 4 Tuesday…I hope you’re ready for some fun 🙂
You bet I am, Christine. Lay it on me!
First the 10:
To start out, tell us a bit about yourself.
I live on the California central coast and after working fulltime for more years than I’d like to remember, I became a stay-at-home mom…then quickly became bored. I help run my husband’s contracting business, but once the kids were in school, I found myself with needing something more. Enter romance writing!
I live on a small ranch with my husband and two boys. We have horses, sheep, and way too many dogs.
What genre(s) do you write?
I’m published in Fantasy Romance, but I also have a time-travel western romance in the works.
A time-travel western romance sounds fun! Share your blurb from Troll-y Yours!
Determined to forge a better life, Ella launches her new business with high hopes—until a sexy Centaur bumps into her and throws her life off course. Voted “Most Eligible Bachelor in Boronda”, Aleksander shakes up her world and tilts her in more ways than one.
HE’S IN DANGEROUS TERRITORY.
Years of warfare and countless bedroom encounters have stolen Kempor Aleksander’s luster for life. He never expects to rediscover his zeal in the small, redheaded form of Ella the Troll, who fires his blood hotter than the deepest caverns in the forest.
A PASSION SO HOT.
But as trouble lingers in their midst—and edges ever closer—Alek and Ella spiral into troubled terrain. Turning to each other, the pair face down dangers that run impenetrably deep in their mythological world. But will the two lovers discover a passion that runs even deeper?
Describe your book using five words.
What’s the best part about the writing process for you?
I love to edit the completed rough draft. All the hard work is done and now I get to touch up the finished product!
I love the title of your book…and the awesome cover. How did you come up with the title? And do titles generally come pretty easy to you?
Troll-y Yours is a play on words. Ella, the heroine, has a new business in the Centaur kingdom — a speed-date business. And since she’s a Troll…the name came to me that way. The title of this book is the name of her business.
I’ve been fortunate. Titles do come to me easily.
What makes Troll-y Yours different than other books in the same genre?
You take a shape-shifting Centaur, match him with a Troll who can disappear underground, plop them into a modern world, and wah-la! The ingredients for a story unlike anything you’ve ever read before.
Tell us the best advice you’ve been given in regards to your writing career.
Don’t worry so much about promoting…just write the next book.
Wise advice, but hard to do at times 🙂 Have you ever thought about venturing into another genre and if so, which one?
Enter my time-travel western romance. It’s so completely different from what I’m currently writing, it gives me a nice mental break when I need.
What’s your current WIP?
A Wood Nymph novella, a Centaur novella, Book 3 of the Centaur series, and the time-travel.
Now the 4:
How do you make a tuna fish sandwich?
I open a can of albacore, mix it with a dab of Best Foods olive oil mayonnaise, add a dash of salt, five cranks on the pepper mill, and lay it over whole wheat bread. Mmm-mmm, good!
You travel back in time and get stuck in 1983 for six months. When it’s time to come back to the present, you’re able to take one of the fads from ’83 and bring it back with you…and it’ll be a huge sensation. What fad will you bring back and why?
I never let the fad go! LOL I love big hair! The why of it is because I’m short. When I crank my hair up a good two or three inches, I can ditch the platform heels and still be tall.
Teehee…I couldn’t resist throwing in something about big hair and the 80’s lol What would your mother say about today’s underwear choice? Now, what would your hubby say? 😉
Today, as in what I’m wearing right now? LOL My mother would tell me I spent too much money on a scrap of nothing that only cost pennies to make. The Hubs would give me a huge smile his two thumbs up…he bought the panties for me 🙂
An amusement park is opening in your town and you were chosen to name it and also ride any ride in the park for free for life. What would you name the park and which ride would you choose?
I’d name the park The Pacific Ravine. My free for life ride would be the Zip Line!
You’re awesome Sheri! Thanks for being such a good sport and for sharing your 10 and your 4. Please share an excerpt of your book 🙂
Aleksander straightened his shoulders and stepped into the Neigh Café the same way he entered a briefing room—absolute and purposeful. The glittering scowl that crossed Ms. Troll’s features gave him a sense of satisfaction. His enjoyment with her impatience climbed when she stalked toward him.
“Are you following me?”
Alek eyed the clipboard she held before her as if it were a warrior’s shield. “Do you always talk to potential clients that way?”
“You’re not a client for another thirty minutes.”
“What’s your name, sweet-thing?”
Stubborn, she crossed her arms and locked her jaw, refusing to answer.
“Ella?” Apron-clad Sacha stood near the swing doors holding a silver water pitcher. He raised his brows in their direction. “May I see you a moment, please?”
Cute as a bunny, her mouth tightened before she answered over her shoulder. “I’ll be right there.”
Aleksander flashed his grin, knowing from mirrored practice it was dazzling against his tanned olive skin.
While Ella’s reaction was a subtle softening to her clenched jaw, her eyes narrowed on him.
A worthy challenge, but I likes me a good game.
By nature, Trolls were volatile mythics. Probably the reason he found himself drawn to them over the years. With nothing other than uprising rebels to fight the last few years, it answered the question he’d asked himself when he walked through the café door—why was he here?
“Look, unless you’re here on Her Majesty’s business, I’m busy.” She tilted her head and her little foot tapped the floor.
“You could say I am. What time—?”
“What are you, the Head Palace Guard or something?” Ella rolled her eyes and huffed out a laugh.
“I’m booked for tonight’s sessions. I’ll have another in a few weeks. Do you want to be on the waiting list for that?” Tiny red-gold tendrils escaped the silken mass pulled back from her oval face. Her pen clicked and she poised her hand over a sheet of lined paper. “Name?”
He shrugged to hide his confusion. Why weren’t his charms working? Didn’t his battery recharge this afternoon? “Kempor Aleksander. Head Cen—”
“Aleksander Hedson. Got it. Payment will be due prior to your session. And, Al…?” Her smile lacked warmth. “Please don’t be late.”
