My Life As An Author

As demanding and time consuming as it is for me to be a full-time author, I wouldn’t trade my job for any other. It’s the best and most rewarding job I’ve ever had (not counting that of being a parent of course) and I absolutely love it! As soon as the kids leave the house in the morning and head off to school for the day, I settle down to write, adding somewhere between 1500 and 3000 words to my manuscript each day. This means 3-5 hours of non-stop writing per day, and since I don’t have an assistant, there’s also plenty of social networking to manage, like facebook posts, giveaways, newsletters to set up, website updates, tweets to send out and of course my email correspondence. Sometimes edits will overlap with my current work in progress which of course will add to the work load. Right now I’m putting a lot of work into my upcoming release while working on the second book in my new series so it will be ready by October 1st. Meanwhile, I also want to spend time with my kids who are on summer vacation and with my husband when he has time off work. Needless to say, our house isn’t always the neatest house in the world and the weeds do sometimes get free reign of the garden, because as much as I love gardening, there comes a time when I simply have to admit that I can’t do it all and that I have to prioritize. So I do what I love the most: I spend time with my family and I write the stories I want to share with the world. In between, I try to read a book or watch a movie while ignoring the dust mites under the couch and the pile of laundry that’s forever taunting me. Perhaps a solution would be to slow down a bit, but I can’t seem to do that either because the stories are stubborn creatures that want to be told as fast as possible =)

But being an author isn’t just about sitting at home and typing away all day either. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful people along the way – extraordinary people really – like my editors, publicists, fellow authors and readers. Participating in RWA last year was such an incredible experience. I wish I could have gone this year as well, but hopefully I’ll make it to NYC next year instead. Never in my life have I met a group of friendlier or more helpful group of people than those who make up the romance community – a community I feel honored to be a part of.

Lucien Marvaine never thought he was good enough for Katherine. As the younger son of an earl, he didn’t have a title or prospects. Then fate steps in and gives him a second chance, and this new Earl of Roxbury is determined to make the beautiful Kate his own . . . one touch . . . one kiss at a time.

Katherine never thought of herself as a temptress, certainly not with Lucien. Why, she’s known him almost all her life! Yet as she waltzes in Lucien’s arms at the Kingsborough Ball, she can’t help but be drawn to him. Has he always been this hard and masculine? And where did those dimples come from? Kate is not looking for a husband . . . but how can she not surrender to Lucien’s charms when love is at stake?

Author Info

Born in Denmark, Sophie Barnes spent her youth traveling with her parents to wonderful places all around the world. She’s lived in five different countries, on three different continents, and speaks Danish, English, French, Spanish, and Romanian. But, most impressive of all, she’s been married to the same man three times—in three different countries and in three different dresses.

When she’s not busy dreaming up her next romance novel, Sophie enjoys spending time with her family, swimming, cooking, gardening, watching romantic comedies and, of course, reading.

Sounds like a great book! And yes, being an author is the best job in the world. If only I could do it full time. 🙂 Tweeted.
