Learning About Jennifer Faye in 10 Questions

1) Have you always been a writer?

I started writing as a little kid. I can remember asking Santa Claus for a typewriter. And he brought it. It had a grey case and white keys. And don’t remind me how old that makes me that they still had typewriters back then. LOL. Then in elementary school I would write short stories to pass around the lunch table. So off and on throughout my life, I was writing this or that. It wasn’t until I was a teenager and read my first Harlequin that I knew what I wanted to do when I grew up. Hmm…does this mean I’m grown up now? 😉
2) Do you have a particular writing process?

Definitely. And I’ve learned the hard way not to divert from it without dire consequences. LOL.

Here’s an overview:

  1. write the complete synopsis
  1. wait for editor feedback
  1. implement editor’s comments
  1. set up an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of my progress and to ensure I’ll meet my deadline
  1. start writing/researching details
  1. keep writing…ignore the doubt crows that always circle and tell me that it is rubbish. By the time I type “The End” and reread it, it doesn’t sound as awful as I’m imagining. 😉

3) How could you compare your writing process to gardening?

I plant the seed of an idea when I write my synopsis. I let it sit and grow for a bit. Then I prune it a bit and add a bit of water and sunshine and watch it grow into a full idea. Of course by then it needs some weeding to keep it clean and neat. 😉

4) What must you have in order to be able to write?

My kitty. She’s my buddy and adds her own stuff to the manuscript at times. Although between you and me, I have yet to figure out what she types. It must be in furbaby language. 😉

5) Can you tell us three things about yourself that we probably don’t already know?

1. I love pizza!!! And when you’re dieting that isn’t such a good thing…even when you make it lite. 😉

  1. My guilty pleasure is watching Y&R (Young & the Restless) while working out on my elliptical.
  2. I love to bake, but I don’t do it often. See notes in #1 & #2.

6) Congratulations on your release of A PRINCESS BY CHRISTMAS. Where did the idea come from?

I knew I wanted to write a book about a prince. That’s all I knew when I started plotting this book. From there I kept asking myself “Why?”. If I ask that question enough times, I’ll usually end up with the characters and the premise of the story.

A royal kiss under the mistletoe…

Prince Alexandro Castanovo arrives in snowy New York intent on protecting his royal family from scandal. And when Reese Harding—down-to-earth and heart-stoppingly beautiful—finds room for him at her inn, it seems like the perfect twist of fate.

Not long ago Reese’s world came crumbling down, shaking her foundations. But this enigmatic stranger intrigues her! She’s learned to be wary of secrets…but when she discovers Alex’s true identity, might there be enough magic in the air to make this regular American girl a princess by Christmas…?

7) Do you have a favorite excerpt that you’d like to tease us with?

Prince Alex has just arrived in snowy New York after losing the paparazzi. He is quite taken with Reese, the owner of The Willows Inn, but he’s resisting the temptation of getting to know her better as he has a mission to accomplish. But there’s a hitch—he has nowhere to stay as there’s no room at the inn. Oops! Guess Reese has to get this straightened out pronto…

Reese clamped her hands together. “If you’d like, I have the phone numbers of other facilities around the city that might be able to accommodate your party—”

“That won’t be necessary,” Alex said firmly. “I am staying here as arranged.”

“But—”

“There are no more buts. I am staying.” He pressed the check back into her hand. “And don’t tell me again that there is no room. Your mother informed me otherwise.”

 “She did what?”

He sent her a knowing smile. “She told me there’s a bedroom available. It’s in some private apartment until one of the guest rooms opens up.”

What in the world had gotten into her mother? Sure, she used to be impulsive back before the disaster with Reese’s father, but since then she’d been so reserved, so quiet. Now she was getting active in the inn, which was great, but why in the world was she handing out her daughter’s bedroom to this total stranger?

Reese shook her head, trying to dispel the image of this tall, dark, smooth-talking stranger in her bed…

8) What can we expect from you next? Is there something you are working on right now?

A very exciting project!!! And I really want to share more details…but I can’t yet. I will soon! It’s something a bit different than my Harlequins. If you want to be one of the first to know the details, sign up for my newsletter (you can find the sign-up button on the top right of my home page) My subscribers are the first to know important stuff and they also have access to special giveaways. 🙂

And come March/April 2015, my first duet will be released—THE DeFIORE BROTHERS.

Book #1 – THE PLAYBOY OF ROME (March 2015)

Book #2 – BEST MAN FOR THE BRIDESMAID (April 2015)
9) Plotter or pantser?

I started off being a pantser. But I ended up having to do way too many rounds of revisions. I knew there had to be something better…something more efficient. I just had too many stories to tell and not enough time. Through observation and trial and error, I became a plotter/pantser hybrid. And I love it. 🙂

10) Digital books or print books?

Both!!! I thought I’d be the very last person to start using a Kindle…but I got one for Christmas and I must admit that I love the immediacy of getting a book to read within seconds. But I still love my print books. I’m definitely a hybrid reader!
