Take it away Lori…

Five Surprising Things About Writers’ Lives.

  • We burn dinner a lot.

You’re busy cooking. A character whispers something in your ear. You run off to the computer to jot down a word or two and the next thing you know, someone is saying, “What’s that smell?”

  • We know a lot of random things.

The other day, my husband had watched The Amazing Race and he was recapping it for me. “They were in this flat-bottomed boat, kind of like a gondola—” Without missing a beat, I said, “Oh they were punting the Cam.” His jaw dropped and his eyes rounded and he said, “How did you know that?” Um, ‘cause I researched it for a book.

3) We can go days without seeing anyone other than family and the UPS man.

And even then the sightings are limited when you’re in the deep throes of deadlines.

  • We get our idea from you.

Everyone wants to know where we writers get our ideas. Ideas are a penny a million. We get them from everywhere. Including you. How do you think I came up with the idea for number four on this list? So watch yourself. You could end up in a book.

  • Writers never take vacations.

We can’t. It’s the nature of our job. Wherever we go, we take notes. We observe. We analysis. We visualize. And the next thing you know we’re off writing…

Christmas at Twilight
Twilight, Texas # 5
By: Lori Wilde
Releasing October 28th, 2014
Avon Romance

It’s Christmas in Twilight, Texas. The Cookie Club is baking, the town is decorated, and Delta Force Operator “Hutch” Hutchinson has finally, reluctantly, returned home . . .

. . . only to get pepper sprayed by the delicious- looking stranger who’s taken over his house. She says her name is Jane, and she immediately sets down ground rules. Top priority: no touching. For Hutch that isn’t easy—he was wounded in action, but one part is still working very well.

Then Hutch learns the truth. Jane harbors a frightening secret—she’s really Meredith Sommers, on the run from a dangerous ex-husband and desperately in need of the safety Hutch can provide. In that moment, he vows he’d do anything in his power to protect her. And as Christmas approaches, they discover that their love can conquer the past and overcome any obstacle—but what price will they pay?

I get that Hutch is just returning home from a tour of duty. I also get that Jane is harboring some kind of awful secret. What I don’t get from the book blurb is why Jane is in Hutch’s house and “taking it over.” Sigh. I guess I’ll have to wait until I have the book in hand and can read the whole thing before I find out the answers. Thanks for the post!
