Hi Christine! Thank you for hosting the blog tour for Loving You Is Easy, my Loveswept Contemporary Romance.
In Loving You Is Easy, the heroine, Brooke, a seventh grade math teacher, is introduced to the hero, Shane, a soldier in the U.S. army serving his fourth tour of combat duty in Afghanistan, as part of a ‘Support Our Troops’ initiative that matches active duty soldiers serving overseas with pen pals from back home.
In reviews, some early readers have mentioned they would have liked to see more of the letters exchanged between Brooke and Shane. And since I like to keep my readers happy, here’s a never before seen letter from Shane to Brooke.
Thanks for the care package. The socks were exactly what I needed. And my supply of Fireball candy has been sufficiently replenished and should last me another couple of weeks. Those coconut macaroons you made were amazing. I’m sure my mother would want the recipe. But most of all I appreciated the letter you enclosed. My rational self knows I can’t hold myself responsible for every soldier out here…but seeing a friend get blown up and not being able to get close enough to do anything about it…well. I said it all in my last letter. No need to bring it up again.
I find writing this stuff down lifts the weight of guilt and sadness so I can breathe better. But I should probably warn you before dumping my negative shit so you can skip over it, if you want to. No reason it should drag both of us down.
So consider this your warning. You may want to jump down to the ** below.
I had another shitty couple of days. The week started off on a high. My buddy Fozzie’s wife gave birth to their first child, a perfect baby boy. He got to watch the whole thing over the Internet. Afterwards he was smiling so much he got the rest of us smiling. Until an op three days ago when he stepped on an IED and got his arm and leg blown off. He survived, barely, but who knows if he’ll make it. No one on my team is smiling now.
Last night two female soldiers were raped on their way to the latrine. What kind of inhumane creatures would do that to a woman? To a fellow soldier? I am disgusted and outraged and can’t seem to calm myself down. What is this war, all this violence and killing doing to us? Are we fucked up to the point we’re unfit to return to our civilian lives living amongst normal, law abiding citizens?
** That’s it. Rant over. But now I could really use some happy news from back home. Maybe you could send some pictures of puppies and kittens. Or better yet, how about some pictures of you? I think we know each other well enough. And an eight by ten inch, full color, glossy print of you in a bikini would go a long way in improving my mood and prettying up my CHU (Containerized Housing Unit). What do you say? If you’d rather not pose in a bikini, fine by me. Naked is okay, too. (If you were here I’d have winked after that last part.)
If you want me to go first, just give me the go ahead. I’m not the least bit shy and you could be looking your fill within hours.
Regardless of whether you send the pictures, I look forward to your letters and e-mails so please keep them coming. I may be able to get a call out soon. If you have any interest in actually talking to me send me your number and I’ll see what I can work out.
Oh, and happy early birthday. If everything goes as planned you should be getting something from me on or around the big day. I hope your tutoring is going well and your mother has backed off on trying to set you up on dates you don’t want to go on. I say the best approach is the straight forward one. Just tell her you don’t want to go, that you’re perfectly capable of picking out your own dates.
Well, that’s all for now. I’ve got to be out on patrol early tomorrow and I need to get some sleep.
Take care of yourself,
For those of you who’ve already read Loving You Is Easy, what do you think? Does this help to give you a little more insight into what Shane and Brooke discussed in their letters? For those of you who haven’t read Loving You Is Easy yet, does this letter make you want to read more about Brooke and Shane?
Loving You is Easy
By: Wendy S. Marcus
Releasing December 9th, 2014
She’s a survivor of the front lines of politics. He’s a wounded soldier returning home from the battlefield. Can they place their trust in the power of love?
Nobody plays the role of perfect politician’s daughter better than quiet, respectable math teacher Brooke Ellstein. But she won’t be caught swimming with the sharks again, not after the son of a wealthy donor sinks his teeth into her and gets away with it. Still, political connections have their perks, such as heading up the governor’s “Support Our Troops” pen-pal initiative—and getting first dibs on the smoking-hot sergeant whose picture shakes her right down to her goody-two-shoes.
When corresponding with sweet, classy Brooke, Shane Develen instinctively hides his commando tattoos and blue-collar roots—and he can tell that she’s hiding something, too. But Shane knows he’s gained her trust when Brooke gives him a blisteringly sexy photo. Then he’s injured in an ambush and a fellow soldier posts the snapshot online. Overnight, Brooke’s reputation turns to ashes. Even though he’s totally wrong for her, Shane shows up on Brooke’s doorstep, determined to set things right—and discovers that right or wrong has nothing on the chemistry they share.
