Reality Rules—Bad Boy Billionaires/Laura Marie Altom

One of the best parts about being an author is creating characters. When a story is really working for me, plots never come out of my head, but from characters’ backstories. There’s generally a tipping point midway through a book when these imaginary people turn all-too-real, and if I close my eyes, I’m in their world. Sometimes what next unfolds is tender or sexy or downright wild! Liam and Ella from my new Shamed series never disappointed when it came to shaking things up. There were times I pulled back, wondering if I’d taken them too far, but in researching the world’s current Bad Boy Billionaires, I quickly learned there’s no such thing as playing it safe . . .

Swedish billionaire, Hans Kristian Rausing, put a whole new spin on keeping a skeleton in his closet! When this 49-year-old who made his money from milk cartons was arrested for possibly having illegal drugs in his five-story mansion, police found way more than they’d ever expected. For weeks, Hans had shared the home with his wife—nothing out of the ordinary there, right? Um yeah, only she was dead!!! Turns out poor Eva Rausing took a wee bit too much cocaine, and passed on to that magical ATM in the sky. Hans was in trouble, but not too much. He was only charged with “preventing the lawful and decent burial” of his wife.

Party-Boy Pharmacy billionaire, Stewart Rahr, was tossed from Nobu, a fancy New York sushi restaurant, because he supposedly made death threats against the manager for allowing another patron to sit at Stewart’s favorite table. A few days later, Stewart was caught fighting in a Trump Tower elevator, where police confiscated his two guns. Not long after that, Stewart announced he and the woman he’d been married to for forty-three years were divorcing. The moral to this story? Maybe Stewart would have been better off with a nice steak!

A bizarre court case ensued for Supermarket billionaire, Christoffel Wiese, when he set off on a flight from England to Luxembourg with some unusual luggage. Oh—the bags themselves were no big deal. Just two suitcases, and a carry-on, but he’d crammed them with over a million dollars in wads of cash that he’d rolled and secured with rubber bands. Even though the standard amount of cash allowed by one person on a flight is a paltry ten-thousand, Wiese’s lawyer argued that for Wiese, a million was no big deal—“less than two weeks’ income and a minute fraction of his assets.” The question I can’t help but wonder is what Wiese planned to do with all that cash? Poker? Strip clubs? Or maybe he just needed pocket change for those pricey airport duty free shops . . .

Apparently 76-year-old media mogul and former Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, has enough money to have purchased the Fountain of Youth! Not only was he recently on trial for supposedly having sex with an underaged prostitute, but he was also engaged to a 27-year-old hottie at the same time. He somehow still had enough energy left to get sentenced to a year in jail for tax fraud. One would think after all of that, he might be ready for at least a nap? Nope! He’s exploring a re-election bid. You go, Silvio!!

Wonder if it’s too late for me to land my billionaire, Liam, in more trouble? I wouldn’t want his feelings hurt for being a Billionaire Bad Boy underachiever! J

(Thanks to for the Billionaire triva.)

Shamed # 2

By: Laura Marie Altom

Releasing December 23rd, 2014

Ella Patton and Liam Stone return in the breathtaking conclusion to the steamy, contentious love affair that began in Control.

Will you marry me? Those four little words should be a dream come true. But for Ella Patton, they’re the start of a waking nightmare. For despite the insatiable desire she feels for Liam Stone, marriage is out of the question—divorcing her abusive husband, Blaine, would be too dangerous to even contemplate. Besides, Ella couldn’t ask for anything more than the life she and Liam share: a scalding hot passion that’s totally outside the bounds of “I do.”

Liam has hit a brick wall. His fortune can’t buy Ella’s freedom from the oppressive monster the law recognizes as her husband. Blaine will take any opportunity to bring Ella back under his authority, no doubt exacting a terrible revenge as punishment for nearly slipping away. But Liam has a force greater than money and influence on his side: Ella’s love. She sparks his most unstoppable determination—and ignites pleasures that no man should be able to possess.
