Coffee and an Ebook

In the past couple of months in Connecticut gas prices have fluctuated. At one point last year, the price of gasoline was $4.00 a gallon. So when the prices recently dropped to $2.50, it was such a shock to see that my tank was filled for fewer than fifty bucks.
I saw a meme online that showed other everyday products compared to their price per gallon. A gallon of milk is about $3.69. A gallon of beer would be $28.40. I couldn’t figure out exactly how much a gallon of pretzels to go with that would be, but it was around the same amount. Olive Oil is about $38.00 a gallon, but that’s a lot of sautéing. Nyquil cold medicine is about $94.90 for a gallon. Boy, am I glad my car doesn’t run on this stuff.
I can get 25 miles out of a gallon of gas, which is what I burn driving to and from work in one day. And when I’ve got a cold, paying for Nyquil is well worth it – or it was until they changed the formula to take out the good stuff that some people were cooking meth with. Unfortunately, that’s the same stuff that clears out my sinuses and allows me to work without moaning, “I don’t feel good.”
Along these lines, I generally don’t buy hard covers because I read so fast. I can easily devour a book in one day. So paying $26.95 for a book doesn’t seem worth it. But then I thought about it. If it took me eight hours to read that book, the book would have cost me $3.36 an hour. Heck that’s a bargain. If you go to the movie made from that same book, it would be $7.50 an hour — $5.50 if you went to the matinee.
What is even more cost effective is a full length ebook that costs $2.99. In that same eight hours, it would cost me thirty-seven cents an hour to enjoy the book. I pretty much find .37 every time I do laundry.
Even better, would be if I found those same books (and movie) at the library. I love the library. If you haven’t tried Inter Library Loan (ILL), you should make a point to get cozy with your local librarian and have them teach you how. You can find books from libraries across your state. The libraries ship the books directly to your library for you to pick up. And when you’re done borrowing them, just drop the books back at your local library and the library ships them back to their home. And now with the Overdrive program, you can borrow ebooks as well. Again, just ask your friendly librarian for details.
But let’s back to number crunching. I’m addicted to Starbucks. I’m especially fond of their iced caramel macchiatos which go for $24.80 a gallon—which, frankly I think is a bargain. But I found a fun recipe to make at home. Unfortunately, you need a way to make espresso because this lovely beverage calls for two shots of it. Luckily, I found an easy way to make this with a coffee maker here:
Iced Caramel Fever
2-oz Brewed Express ($1.24)
6-oz Milk (.18 cents)
1-oz Torani vanilla syrup (2 tbsp – more or less to taste) (.23 cents)
1-oz sugar (to taste) (.05 cents)
1-oz whipped cream (.33 cents)
2-oz caramel syrup (.28 cents)
Fill a 16 oz cup with ice. Mix together brewed espresso, milk, syrup and sugar. Pour over the ice. Top with the whipped cream and drizzle the syrup on top.
This concoction comes out to $2.31, which is a great savings from the original. But my newly released ebook, FEVER, is still a better bargain because I bet that you’ll drink this sweet coffee in less time than it takes you to read the book.

Club Inferno # 3
By: Jamie K. Schmidt
Releasing March 17th, 2015

Readers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Bared to You will savor a visit to Club Inferno, the erotic playground where glitz and glamour mix with leather and whips.

Deep in the shadows of her exclusive fashion resort, Couture, Colleen Bryant presides over a much more intimate world: Club Inferno. The successful businesswoman and sex instructor has built an empire that caters to the BDSM elite, but now she finds herself longing for something a bit more ordinary: a man to love. She’s not sure how to find someone who will accept what she does for a living—or the kinks that drive her wild—until her old flame, ex-pro football player Chase Fairwood, comes back in her life.

There’s no woman as hot, sexy, or exciting as Colleen—and Chase knows it. He also knows he’s man enough to play her games, and to give as good as he gets. His return to Club Inferno reignites Colleen’s scorching demands, along with a new determination to test his resolve. Soon he’s competing against a rival Dom to brand Colleen as his own. But Chase has a secret weapon: the burning desire to offer his body—and his heart—in sweet surrender.

Fever is an erotic romance intended for mature audiences.
