Cowboys Make Sexy Heroes
By Emma Cane, author of EVER AFTER AT SWEETHEART RANCH
You’re nodding your head at my blog title: Cowboys Make Sexy Heroes. Maybe you’re rolling your eyes that I even felt I had to say it. We all know it’s true! My newest Valentine Valley book, EVER AFTER AT SWEETHEART RANCH, has a cowboy hero, and when you’re as gorgeous and devil-may-care as Will Sweet, math teacher Lyndsay De Luca doesn’t stand a chance. You see, Lyndsay has a secret: she’s written a romance novel and accidentally based the hero on Will, a cowboy with a tragedy in his past. She thinks she knows everything about Will, since he’s her brother’s best friend, but we all know she’s got a lot to learn.
Here are my reasons why we’re fascinated with cowboys:
Sometimes a cowboy’s work keeps him alone with his horse a good part of the day. We imagine that cowboys are loners, a little sad at heart, who just need a good woman to make their lives complete. And we all want to be that woman.
Cowboys are honorable guys who’d do anything for their parents and their girlfriends, who’d never knowingly hurt anyone, who believe in honesty. And if a cowboy goes against any of that, he probably has a darn good reason and will make it right by the end of the book.
Cowboys work with their hands, and they use their bodies to control their horses. (fanning myself now) Their work is very physical and sometimes dangerous, and that sculpts an incredible body. But strength also makes a man confident, and that’s pretty sexy, too. Working on a ranch, a cowboy has to pick up a lot of skills, from dealing with animals to fixing engines. There’s just something about a man who’s competent in a lot of different ways. If you need something done, a cowboy can probably do it.
And last but not least: a man just looks good in jeans and cowboy hat and boots. Enough said.
So tell me your favorite cowboy qualities!
Ever After at Sweetheart Ranch
Valentine Valley # 6

Releasing April 28th, 2015
The only thing hotter than a cowboy…
Math teacher Lyndsay De Luca never surprised anyone-least of all herself-until this summer. First, she secretly published her debut romance novel. Then she started dating Will Sweet, the cowboy of her dreams. And now Lyndsay’s scrambling to hide the juiciest tidbit of all: that the hazel-eyed hero of her steamy fiction is the same guy whose kisses have become her mind-blowing reality.
Is a cowboy in love.
Ever since Will’s high school sweetheart died in a tragic accident, he hasn’t been able to commit to a long-term relationship. Lyndsay is the first woman in years who’s been able to catch-and keep-his attention. She’s fascinated by his work at Sweetheart Ranch, and a glance from her gorgeous brown eyes sends Will’s thoughts wandering. Will she be the one to finally break down the walls around his guarded heart?

Deep inside, a part of her scoffed at the all-or-nothing mentality, but she didn’t want to look closely.
“Tell me he didn’t go right to another woman,” Kate demanded.
“No, he’s got kids. He takes his time.”
He’d taken a lot of time with her, and she knew he’d been more and more serious. And she’d practically run screaming for the hills. What the hell was wrong with her?
Will made a spectacular catch and passed the ball at lightning speed to first base, which made three outs. Lyndsay clapped and cheered along with half the stands, and she was glad for the distraction.
He was pretty easy on the eyes. Last year, Will had been part of “The Men of Valentine Valley” calendar, used to raise money for the Valentine Valley Preservation Fund. He’d been featured in the month of June, playing baseball, shirtless. And he’d been in the group shot for July, all of the men in swim trunks. Will had been front and center in the hot spring up behind the Sweetheart Inn, hazel eyes smoldering, sandy hair dark and curly with moisture, water dripping down his incredible six-pack abs, as steam rose around him—them. There’d been a whole crowd of local guys, she’d reminded herself at the time, including her brother.
Kate eyed her closely as the applause died away. “You seem…okay about it.”
It? Oh, the breakup. “I guess I am. I wasn’t in love with him.”
“Then I feel better. So you’re ready to get back out in the dating world?”
Lyndsay shrugged. “I’ve got a lot going on right now.” Like a book about to publish, a Facebook fan page to create, a website to finalize, papers to grade…and deciding on the perfect way to tell her family about A Cowboy in Montana. “I’ll take my time.”
But Kate still radiated suspicion.
“I’m starving,” Lyndsay said brightly. “Want a hot dog?”
“Okay, thanks. Want me to come?”
“I can carry it. Be right back.”
Lyndsay felt both relieved and guilty at the need to distract her friend. But by the time she got back, Kate’s grumbling stomach seemed to erase her memory about guys, and they enjoyed a couple more innings of the game—
—until Mrs. Sweet arrived, her chiffon overskirt floating on the spring breeze as she walked cautiously, regally, over the grass. Her broad-brimmed hat shielded her narrowed eyes from the sun as she stared at Mrs. Thalberg’s banner.
Lyndsay glanced at Kate to see her pressing her lips together, as if to keep from laughing.
“This is about to get ugly,” Lyndsay said solemnly—then winked.
Emma Cane grew up reading and soon discovered that she liked to write passionate stories of teenagers in space. Her love of “passionate stories” has never gone away, although today she concentrates on the heartwarming characters of Valentine, her fictional small town in the Colorado Rockies.
Now that her three children are grown, Emma loves spending time crocheting and singing (although not necessarily at the same time), and hiking and snowshoeing alongside her husband Jim and two rambunctious dogs Apollo and Uma.
