Please help me welcome Rachel Lacey to the blog today 🙂 Rachel has agreed to answer a few questions about herself and her writing. After we get to know her a little bit, please check out her book RUN TO YOU. It has a gorgeous cover and the blurb and excerpt sound great.
Also, don’t forget to enter her giveaway. The link is at the end of the post!
Let’s get started …
Describe yourself in 3 sentences.
I’m a contemporary romance author and all around booklover. When I’m not writing (or reading), I love traveling, spur-of-the-moment adventures, and spending time with my family. I live in warm and sunny North Carolina with my husband, our 8-year-old son, and a houseful of rescue pets.
Love your description and that you have a houseful of rescue pets! What’s hiding under your bed?
lol…that’s better than what’s under my bed, which is dust bunnies. Tell us the last restaurant you ate out at.
I had pancakes for lunch at Another Broken Egg Café with my son yesterday. Not very exciting, but true!
I love your book cover for RUN TO YOU…so cute and colorful. What was your first thought when you saw it?
Thank you so much! I love it too. The art department at Forever Romance has been so good to me. This was actually the second cover for RUN TO YOU (the first one was completely different!), and when I saw it, my first thought was that the cover model looks exactly like RUN TO YOU’s hero, Ethan Hunter, which made me so happy.
One of my favorite things about writing is choosing my character’s names. How did you go about choosing yours in RUN TO YOU?
I dreamed up these two characters several years ago, and their names just came to me with their story. But…the heroine of RUN TO YOU originally had a completely different name! And it was a very distinctive name. I had pitched this book first with a much heavier Olympic theme, so when I pitched it again centered around Ethan’s new extreme outdoor sporting facility, my agent suggested I rename my heroine to freshen things up. I kept her first initial the same and went with the first name that popped into my head…Gabby Winters.
Do you have a writing ritual? As in do you wear a lucky pair of socks, like a candle, eat a certain snack …
I really don’t. The only constant is my laptop. As long as I have it with me, I can write! 🙂
How would you describe your writing? Sexy, sweet, gritty, humorous, all of the above or something else?
Definitely sexy, sometimes humorous and also heartfelt – I want to make you laugh and cry while you’re reading my books.
How would your heroine describe her hero in RUN TO YOU?
Gabby would say that Ethan is everything she never knew she needed. She’s just gotten out of a really bad relationship and doesn’t want a man in her life. Whatever future boyfriend she might imagine for herself would be someone safe and dependable. Ethan is cocky but charming, outrageous, and adventurous. He pushes her outside her comfort zone. But Gabby would also describe him as strong, heroic, caring, and loyal. And sexy, of course!
Would you like to share what you’re working on now?
Right now, I’m writing the third book in the Risking It All series. It’s a second chance romance featuring a scarred hero who’s never completely gotten over the woman he had to leave behind when he enlisted in the Army at eighteen. CAN’T FORGET YOU will be out October 31, 2017.
RANDOM FUN: Finish this sentence …
I would love to spend the whole day in bed reading.
No way will I ever get to bed before midnight in the foreseeable future! 😉
Chocolate is the key to happiness.
My toothbrush is green.
I just read Devil and the Deep by Julie Ann Walker.
My favorite color is turquoise.
Dessert should always include chocolate.
Thank you for a wonderful interview. I enjoyed getting to know you better Rachel and wish you much success with RUN TO YOU!
ONE LITTLE LIE. A WHOLE LOTTA TROUBLE.
Moments after meeting the most gorgeous guy ever, Gabby Winters promptly gets stung by a zillion yellow jackets and falls-not gracefully-into a stream. Yup, Ethan Hunter is trouble with a capital “hot,” and Gabby definitely needs to keep her distance. Except in the small town of Haven, there’s nowhere to hide from Ethan’s sexy, infectious grin . . . and all the residents are conspiring against her.
At the center of the town’s matchmaking is Ethan’s grandmother, who’s convinced their relationship is a done deal. Rather than break her heart, Gabby and Ethan find themselves cornered into pretending to be falling in love. The problem: there’s serious sizzling attraction between them. And if this charade continues, they won’t fool just the entire town – they might fool themselves too . . .
If that’s hard to format with the italics for the text messages, here’s a second option:
“I’m glad you brought me out here.” Gabby stepped over a tree root, lifting her skirt with her free hand so that she didn’t trip.
Ethan squeezed her left hand. “Me, too. The rock face is right up this way.”
They came around a corner and the path opened up to a big rock looming at least thirty feet into the air. There were some creases and cracks in it, but how anyone could scale it with only their bare hands—or why they would want to—was completely beyond her. “You can seriously climb that?”
“I can climb it. Ryan can kick its ass, though.”
“Okay then. Show me.”
With a cocky grin, he reached up and hooked his hand into a crack in the rock. He pulled himself up, his biceps flexing most impressively as he climbed. Holy shit, that was sexy. Soon she was left with nothing but a view of his very fine ass. And by the time he’d reached the top, she was so turned on, she could hardly stand it.
“So?” he called from the top. “You going to join me or what?”
“Not a chance. But I will enjoy watching you climb back down.”
“Gotta give the lady what she wants.” His fine ass reappeared over the edge as he started back down. He took his time on the descent, and if she wasn’t mistaken, he might have reached for a few hand and footholds that made him flex his muscles a little more than was strictly necessary.
“You’re a show-off,” she said when his feet were back on solid ground.
He was a bit out of breath, his bronzed skin glistening with sweat, trademark smile still in place. “No clue what you’re talking about.”
“No? You really needed to reach all the way to that notch?” She gestured above them. “Instead of the one closer to your shoulder that maybe wouldn’t have shown off your lovely biceps quite as well?”
He flexed for her. “What, these old things? And for the record, I totally needed the leverage.”
“Mm-hmm.” For some reason, she put her hand on his biceps, and oh crap, that was a mistake. His skin was hot beneath her fingers, and his blue eyes blazed into hers.
“Killing me, Gabby,” he murmured. “Killing me.”
His words sent a bolt of red-hot desire right through her, and she must have made a sound because Ethan sucked in a breath, his gaze locked on her lips. His hands settled on her hips, burning into her skin through the thin fabric of her skirt.
