Like so many others, I’m trying to balance many things in my life. I’ve found over the last few years, especially since I’ve started to write, that I’ve allowed certain indulgences of mine to fall to the side. My “me” time is even more limited 🙂 I’m not complaining at all, but I’ve decided it’s time for me to at least enjoy my love of reading again. Even if it takes me a week to read a book instead of a day or a few hours like it used to, I’m going to go for it. lol
So, every once in awhile, if I read a book that I particularly enjoyed I’m going to post my review and the book information so if any of my blog readers are interested they can check it out too.
I’m not a professional reviewer or anything like that. I’m choosing to share some of the books I’ve enjoyed on my site. I enjoy just about every genre, so I’ll be all over the board 🙂
Today, I’d like to share JUST A KISS (An It’s in His Kiss Novella) by Ally Broadfield. This is a historical romance.
This was a quick read that I really enjoyed. From the first page I was curious about the characters. Charlotte the heroine was instantly a favorite. She was a strong young woman of her era, not just a wallflower or a quiet mouse, she tended to do and speak her mind. But she did it all with style and the occasional spark of humor.
The hero of the story is Sebastian. Just the name does it for me. I can easily picture a noble gentlemen who loves and dotes on his grandmother, but at the same time as a reputation as a ladies man. Again, this character had a sense of humor and a quirky habit of making up words to describe feelings or instances that weren’t easily described.
My favorite secondary character was Sebastian’s grandmother. I think she was a woman ahead of her time, kind of like Charlotte.
The fun part about this short little story was that Sebastian and Charlotte started out as friends who were both in the same predictament. They each had a season to find a spouse. Charlotte’s story was more of a hard luck case, and Sebastian seemed to accept his fate in finding a wife to please his grandmother. In their attempt to help each other they grow close, share several fun meetings with engaging dialogue and easily pictured settings, and a romance is sparked.
I won’t give away to much of this well written story. My suggestion is to grab a copy yourself and get lost between the pages. You won’t regret it.
Charlotte Lightwood has one season to find a husband or she’ll be forced to marry her guardian’s loathsome cousin. With no title or dowry, she doesn’t have much hope of making a good match. Sebastian Wilkinson, the Earl of Marley, has been the most eligible bachelor on the marriage mart for more years than he cares to count and is very aware of his duty to marry a woman who will add to the wealth and stature of his title.
Sebastian makes Charlotte an offer she can’t refuse: he will pretend to court her to help her attract more suitors in exchange for her advice about which ladies he should pursue. As they work together, their mutual attraction grows. When they realize they just might be perfect for one another, they must decide whether to bow to the dictates of society or follow their hearts.
