Love, Honor, & Hope – A Benefit for the United States War Veteran’s PTSD Foundation

Love, Honor, & Hope – A Benefit for the United States War Veteran’s PTSD Foundation

Eight amazing authors are joining forces to support one fantastic cause. For 30 days, Love, Honor, & Hope, an anthology of eight full-length novels, will be available for the low price of $0.99. That’s right, just 99 pennies. The best part is that 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the United States War Veteran’s PTSD Foundation.

PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, affects approximately 19% of the military men and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq—and that’s just those who have been diagnosed. The percentage is expected to grow as more of our military members seek treatment. It’s a heartbreaking trend for the men and women who sacrifice so much for our freedoms, especially with benefits being cut and promotions being threatened.

The United States War Veteran’s PTSD Foundation is a non-profit charity that focuses on providing FREE care to combat military members, both active and veterans. They can’t do it alone, which is why we’ve made the decision to step up and do something. All eight of the authors have their personal reasons for supporting this cause.
Cherime MacFarlane, author of Heart of the Hunter said, “For me, it’s the way a very quiet man, my uncle, receded into the background whenever a family function took place. I did understand he came back from WWII that way. A young man, easy going and quick to laugh became a recluse. My father also served in WWI, as did a second uncle who returned far from the mischievous young man he was before the war claimed his youth. I was a young mother during the Vietnam era. I had friends who did not come back from Vietnam. I had other friends who did come home but were permanently damaged by the things they saw. For me, this is an opportunity to give back something to the men who served their country when the call came. My uncles and father are gone now, but I do hope, in some small way, to pay it forward for them. This is a tiny step, but as the man once said, every journey begins with that first step.”

It’s easy to sit back and talk about helping our veterans and active military members. To step up and help is something all together different. We are answering the call for help.
Will you answer? All it takes is for you to log on to Amazon or Barnes & Noble and spend 99 cents, and then hopefully share the great news on our labor of love. Not only will you receive eight full-length novels for your enjoyment, you will also tell our men and women who suffer from this terrible and debilitating illness that we’ve got their backs.

Love, Honor, & Hope is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble from June 24 to July 23. It includes the following full-length novels:
Out of the Box Awakening – Jennifer Theriot
Early One Morning – Aubree Lane
Lost and Found – Jennifer Yarbrough
Scary Modsters – Diane Rinella
Tropical Dreams – Kelly Cozzone
Sisters of the Night – Linda Lee Williams
Heart of the Hunter – Cherime MacFarlane
Piece of Heaven – Sammie J

All she wanted was a little adventure…

Darcy Williams is desperate for some relief from her ho-hum life, but getting kidnapped by an outrageously handsome man isn’t at all what she had in mind. She needs to keep it together long enough to escape. Because escape is what she wants, right?

He’s a nice guy doing a bad thing for a really good reason…

Ben Gallagher loves his baby sister, Ana, more than anything. So, when she’s date raped by the mayor’s nephew, Ben has no problem sending said nephew to the ER. Now Ana’s gone missing and Ben will stop at nothing, nothing, to find his sister and ensure her safety—even if that means carjacking and kidnapping an innocent woman.

Things spiral from bad to worse…

When Ben is injured protecting Darcy from some thugs, he has to trust her if he’s going to get to Ana. And he has to ignore the passion Darcy stirs in him. Darcy learns Ben is actually a good man, one she’s starting to have feelings for. Can their fledging relationship stand the test of time —and the law?

“I’ve got an idea,” she said. “Why not tie me to a tree and leave me here? It’d be tomorrow before anyone found me.”

He cupped her elbow to angle her into the seat. “That’s not gonna happen.”

She spun which again planted her body tight to his. He stifled a growl and none-too-gently pushed her into the car.

“But why not? You’d be days gone and I wouldn’t be able to tell anyone where you went. You could ditch my car and steal another one. It’s the perfect plan. You don’t have to hassle with me and I don’t have to be kidnapped.”

He re-tied her hands. “It’s not the perfect plan.”

“Really?” Her mocking tone shredded his nerves. “Give me one reason why you can’t leave me here.”

He leaned an arm on the top of her car. “I won’t give you one reason, I’ll give you two. One, I don’t make a habit out of stealing cars.” His jaw clenched harder at her unladylike snort.

“And two, I know this area. I used to hunt chucker round here. No one would find you for days. And with all the fires, you’d be a sitting duck for a hungry, displaced bear or bobcat.” He clicked her seatbelt into place then firmly closed the door in her face. He got behind the wheel and turned the key.

She twisted to face him. “Let me get this straight, you won’t leave me here because you’re thinking of my safety?”

He backed down the road. “Something like that.”

“Dude, your logic is seriously warped.”

“Maybe, but I’m sticking with it.” He steered the car onto the paved road and headed toward the expressway onramp. “And stop calling me dude.”

“What’s the matter, dude?” she sneered in an exaggerated California accent. “Don’t you like the name?”

“No. So knock it off, lady.”

“Don’t call me lady. I’m twenty-four not eighty-four. Might as well call me ma’am.”

“All right, lady. Tell me your name.”

“You first, dude.”

Ben chuckled. He couldn’t help it. This lady was spunky and tenacious and not at all afraid to challenge him—even in this situation. He wondered how things would have progressed between them had they met in a social setting rather than in this trying situation. “Ben. My name is Ben.”

“Ben what?”

He took his eyes off the road to stare at her. She shrugged. “I took a shot.”

“So what’s your name?”

She stared out the passenger window. “Darcy.”

“Okay, Darcy, this is how it’s gonna work. I’ll let you go just as soon as I can, but I can’t have you going to the police or reporting your car stolen. Just think of this as an unexpected road trip.”

“Don’t suppose you’ll tell me where this little road trip ends?” Bitter sarcasm coated her words.

He accelerated her sub-compact onto the six-lane highway. “Nope.”

“And there’s no way I can convince you to let me go.”

“Nope again.”

“In other words, I don’t have a choice.”

“In other words, you don’t have a choice.”

I’ve always loved stories.  Especially love stories.  Growing up in the Midwest, I’d make up stories to my favorite TV shows – usually westerns.

As I got older, the stories didn’t relent.  In fact, they only got stronger, the characters more insistent, until I had no choice but to put it all on paper.  It’s become an obsession for me.  One that I love.

When not sitting at my computer, I spend my time working as a substitute teacher and fitness instructor.  Guess you could say I’m an equal opportunity “persuader” of the young and, ahem, not so young.

What to Read Wednesday

Happy Wednesday! Thank you for joining me today. We have a special treat in store, so pull up a comfy seat, a fav beverage, and enjoy!

We have author Liza O’Connor on the blog sharing an interesting guest post, her latest book–WORST WEEK EVER–and a super giveaway!

Take it away Liza!!!

1The Craziest Blog Tour Ever

How this three book series came to be and the real life lessons behind it.

by Liza O’Connor.

I confess. My early love life was one train wreck after another. It wasn’t because I couldn’t get a nice boyfriend. It’s that I never tried.

I was incredibly passive in my romantic connections.

I know, hard to believe, Liza passive? But I was a different back then. I had low self-esteem due to a an over-critical father and a mother seriously lacking in parental skills.

To be fair, my dad loved me, but his father had been brutally overcritical, so he became the same with me. While overall he thought me the cat’s pajamas, on every specific thing I did, he would find fault. And all those specific failures seemed far more real than his general approbations.

Thus, when teenage hormones kicked in and I sought love. I would never go for the guy I really liked, because he was ‘too fabulous’ for me. Instead, I’d wait until some guy took interest in me and even if I didn’t really like him, I’d still become his girlfriend. And predictably, the moment I convinced myself that I really liked him, he’d dump me.

It got so bad my mother decided to choose my next date. She set me up with guy who had gotten in trouble for bringing a gun to school, and he could only get out from being grounded if I was his date. (Sounds ridiculous-but this was a redneck town in Arkansas and it’s what really happened. I’d write a better reason if this were a story.) He treated me like a case of herpes, humiliated me about a hundred times during the never-ending date.  Would have gotten drunk at the bowling alley had I not challenged the waitress about serving minors drinks, then at the end of this horrible date, he attempts to jump my bones. I was strong and a practiced fighter, so I easily knocked him back and demanded to be taken home. When I got home I had words with my mother, letting her know once again she failed the minimal requirements of parenting.

A week later, she tells me I have to date him again. Like Hell! I told her to date him herself if she thought a gun toting idiot with anger issues sounded like a good time to her. She assured me he’d be nicer this time. Didn’t care, I wasn’t having it.

After that I started picking better boyfriends.  And yes, they broke my heart too, but at least I wasn’t embarrassed to be around them until they did.

College: A whole new world. And once again I fell into the guys choosing me instead of me choosing them. During my senior year I met JERK at my apartment complex. I was interested in a friend of JERK’s but JERK proved to be an aggressive pursuer, capable of charm, and persistence. So even though I liked JERK’s friend far more, I ended up with JERK because he wanted me.

A year later, he asks me to marry him. I laugh and say when hell freezes over.

6 months later, we’re married.

What happened? To this day I don’t know. He was unfaithful from day we met, but since I didn’t actually like him, that was fine with me. I didn’t even care that he didn’t normally come in until 2 in the morning. (He was a grump and I needed to study.)

Then he tried to kill me in a series of ‘accidental deaths.’  On his last attempt,  I realized  that he wasn’t just lacking in safety concepts,  no,  JERK wanted me to die in an accident.

I put an end to the accidental death attempts by removing him as the beneficiary to my $500K life insurance policy that my company had bought for me.

Then one day JERK demands I drop out of graduate school and work on ‘pleasing him’ instead.

I was working full time and going to graduate school, paying all the bills, and all he’d done is try to kill me three times and would probably infect me with AIDs with all his catting about.

Finally I got it. I was doing great at work, I was the first woman to ever get the firm to pay for graduate school. In all ways I was a success, but one.  I still hadn’t moved beyond the young girl with low-self esteem. I didn’t believe any marriage turned out happy. I didn’t believe men could be faithful. I had never yet experienced real love. I’d given up without every giving love a real chance.

When I divorced JERK, he threatened to kill me…again. So I changed jobs and location. (That is why my profile picture is of Carrie , not me.) (Nor would JERK recognize my name now.)

Over time, I slowly, cautiously met a fabulous guy who showed me how beautiful true love can be.  Eventually, he broke my heart too, but I had ten great years of love, and given my rocky road. I feel very blessed to have experienced it.

I just wished I hadn’t taken so long to learn these life lessons. So I wrote this New Adult series about The Long Road to Love. Hopefully, it can help shorten the journey for others.

What are the life lessons I struggled so hard to learn and want to share in my books:

1) Just because a guy says he loves you doesn’t make him right for you.

2) Never settle. The moment you determine a guy is not the one, cut your losses and run.

3) When you find the guy you think is the one, put yourself out there. Don’t tell yourself you’re not good enough. You don’t have to be perfect. He may think that you’re exactly the type of girl he wants. At least give it a chance!

4) Don’t fear getting your heart broken. That’ll happen whether you chose the guy you want or some guy chooses you. At least you’ll have good memories from a true love. And who knows, maybe it will be the everlasting kind of love. It does happen, but first you need to choose the right guy.

Clearly this is one of my Liza shares too much blogs, but I do so in hopes you can learn from my mistakes.

Worst Week Ever_1600x2400

Worst Week Ever

by Liza O’Connor

New Adult, Humor, Contemporary

What do you get when you put a hardworking, can-do middle-class young woman together with a egoistical, outrageous, billionaire boss, then throw in the worst week of disasters imaginable?

Book 1 of the 3 book series A Long Road to Love.

Worst Week Ever.

Trent Lancaster spends one month without his Executive Assistant, or as his drivers refers to Carrie: ‘Trent’s brain, left hand, and right hand’. He’s had a miserable month without her at his side and to ensure it never happens again, he intends to marry his brilliant beauty. Only given all the times he’s threatened to fire her, he’s not sure she even likes him. However, the future of his company and his happiness depend upon him succeeding, so Trent begins a slow one week seduction that happens to coincide with Carrie’s Worst Week Ever when everything that can go wrong does so in hilarious form.

(Hilarious to the reader–Carrie is not having much fun this week.)

Carrie squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for the thump of a body against the limo’s hood.

“Maybe I shouldn’t have insisted Sam take a shortcut,” Trent muttered beneath his breath.

She groaned softly. If her boss questioned his actions, then matters must look grim outside. She tensed even further, expecting to hear multiple bodies slam into the car.

Sam braked hard, turned right, and resumed driving a billion miles an hour. If not for the seat belts, she and Trent would’ve sailed into the front seat, and then plastered against the door. To secure her further, Trent protectively placed an arm around her shoulder and pulled her against his warm chest.

She focused on the thumping of his heart. It beat once to three of hers. God, how can he be so calm?

Determined to match his bravery, she tried to raise her head, but he wouldn’t let her.

“Just a little longer, I hope. Sam, when do we depart this third world country?”

“Two more blocks, sir.”

“Thank God. You’ve terrified poor Carrie to death.”

Instantly, the limo’s speed dropped.

She turned her head sideways so Sam might be able to hear her words. “Your driving doesn’t frighten me, Sam, the neighborhood does.”

As if on cue, a round of three loud pops sounded, followed by three thunks into her side door. She squeaked like a mouse at the first thunk. By the third, her body shivered in fear.

Trent’s arms tightened around her as the limo picked up speed again. “We’re okay,” he assured her, then his lips pressed against her temple. His calm certainty silenced her tremors.

Having successfully soothed her, he released his outrage upon Sam. “Why the hell did you drive us through here?”

Sam calmly replied as he drove the car at a billion miles an hour, taking corners at deadly speeds. “I warned you the locals might not welcome us.”

“Someone just shot at us?” Trent yelled.

Sam’s nonchalant reply sounded almost surreal. “I’m sure they didn’t mean for you to take it personally, sir.”

Maybe none of this is happening. Maybe I fell asleep in the traffic and my dream has gone rogue.

Her heart calmed and she nuzzled closer to Trent, breathing in his masculine scent. Secure in her dream, she confessed something she never would in real life. “You smell good.”

Trent’s arms relaxed a bit and he chuckled. “It’s called Trent. I had the cologne custom developed. They assessed my natural odors and then determined the optimal combination of scents to create my unique smell.”

She snorted. Even in her dreams, he remained the strangest man she’d ever met. If she had all the money in the world, she’d try to end poverty and violence in…whatever hell they’d just driven through, not have some custom designed perfume created so she’d smell really, really good.

What to Read Wednesday

Welcome to What to Read Wednesday! Today we have multi-pubbed author Callie Hutton returning for another visit. She is talking about time travel which is the theme of her latest release A TUMBLE THROUGH TIME!

You’re going to enjoy her excerpt and drool over her cover 🙂

So, without further chit chat from me…take it away Callie…

Time travel has always fascinated me. I love the idea of being able to see how people looked, dressed, ate, and conducted their lives on a daily basis in another time.  I’d like to see what the world looked like before all the modern inventions and conveniences we have now. I often wondered what would I miss the most? Probably hot showers and a modern bathroom.

I’ve read a lot of time travel books, but my favorite remains Jack Finney’s Time And Again. I also loved Michael Crichton’s Timeline, but my all time favorite romance time travel is A Knight in Shining Armor. A lot of readers didn’t like the way that one ended, though.

It always intrigues me so see how the author gets their characters back in time, and whether they stay there, or return to the future. Before I wrote A Tumble Through Time, I did a short survey on Facebook as to how readers liked to see the book end. Past or future? The opinions were about evenly divided, but the overall consensus was, it really didn’t matter as long as there was a happy ending.

And have you ever noticed that most time travelers are women? Is it because they’re more adaptable? Or, since most time travels are romance, authors generally aim at a female audience? What I find amusing is the traveler in my favorite time travel book is a man. But that one is really not a romance, either.

In A Tumble Through Time, my character, Anna Devlin, is your usual twenty-first century woman. Not exactly a bad-ass, but definitely not ready for long dresses and ‘knowing her place.’ Wes Shannon is a marshal with demons that plague him. They help each other heal. Were they brought together for that purpose? You’ll have to read it to find out.

How about you? If you could travel in time, what time period would you pick, and if you could bring three things with you, what would they be?

Anna Devlin, a recently jilted bounty hunter is a modern woman from the twenty-first century. She is anxious for the hearing that will reinstate her law enforcement career, but an encounter with a strange Native American woman sends Anna back in time to the year 1870.

Federal Marshal Wesley Shannon of Denton, Kansas, has no idea where this woman with the strange clothing and way of speaking came from. Since he fights his own inner demons, the last thing he needs is an attraction to a woman who has given him no clear idea who she is.

But when danger arrives in the form of stagecoach hold ups where drivers and passengers are being killed, Anna torments Wes with plans to help him bring in the outlaws.

Will Wes be able to keep Anna out of harm’s way, or will his attraction to her distract him enough that they are both in danger?

Anna was quiet on the walk to the café. Her eyes darted back and forth as she took in the sights around her, all the time fiddling with her ring, spinning the silver and black circle round and round. She continued to draw in deep breaths and chew on her lower lip, occasionally muttering ‘not possible’ under her breath, as if fighting an internal battle. Her natural color seemed to have paled, the light dusting of freckles more prominent.

Once they’d settled in their seats at the café and ordered dried apple pie and coffee, Wes rested his forearms on the table. “Tell me a little bit about this ‘Tulsa.’”

Anna cleared her throat. “It’s in Oklahoma.” She flinched when he shrugged, still not sure what she was talking about.

“Oklahoma. You know, the state south of Kansas?”

He narrowed his eyes. “The only thing south of us is Indian Territory, then Texas.”

“No,” she whispered, her eyes round as saucers.

Wes nodded at the waitress as she placed cups of coffee and two cuts of pie in front of them. She glanced at Anna, who stared straight ahead, taking in shallow breaths.

Once the waitress left, Anna nodded, as if she’d made a decision. “Wes, can I ask you something?”

She looked him in the eye, seeming to draw strength from within herself. “What year is this?”

His forkful of pie stopped halfway to his mouth. “What?”

Anna licked her lips and cleared her throat. “Just tell me, please. What year is this?”

He frowned and lowered the fork. “It’s eighteen hundred and seventy. Why?”

Then he leapt forward as Anna’s eyes rolled to the back of her head and her slack body slid to the floor.

10 – 4 Tuesday

Welcome to 10 – 4 Tuesday!  This is a forum where I’ll feature an author  who will answer 10 questions about their book and a few personal things and then 4 questions for fun 🙂  So let’s get started.

Today I’d like to introduce you to author Charliann Roberts!  I meet Charliann on facebook and we became fast friends through many late night chats. She’s an awesome lady. Today she’ll be sharing her 10, followed by her 4 and then an excerpt of her book Love on the Horizon. 🙂

Also, please check out the SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT regarding Charliann’s latest release at the end of today’s post…you won’t want to miss it!

Hi Charliann, thanks for joining me for 10 – 4  Tuesday…I hope you’re ready for some fun 🙂

First the 10:

To start out, tell us a bit about yourself.

Hi there! I was born and raised in Minnesota where my Northern Woods novels take place. I have lived in Santa Monica, CA and currently reside in Arizona with my long-time sweetheart. We have a sheltie and a corgi, the two smallest herding dogs (although Chase and Kristi do believe they’re actually our children).

What genre(s) do you write?

I enjoy writing romantic suspense and I’m currently working on my third novel.

CardShare your blurb from and on a sidenote, because I’m a huge cover junkie…let me just tell you that your cover is gorgeous. Love the lightening and the colors).

The Colburn Stables Ranch had always been a large part of Nick Colburn’s life. As a quarter horse breeder and trainer, he cared deeply for his employees, and considered each one of them as part of his family. When tragedy would strike, he was always there to help in any way he could.

Nick’s best ranch hand, Jake, seems inconsolable after his wife divorces him, and now he’s going abroad to meet a mail-order bride. When Jake returns with a beautiful wife, everyone is pleased for him and he feels as though he’s won the lottery. However, both Jake and Nick soon discover the mail-order bride isn’t quite what she seems.

Nick, his wife and son soon find themselves faced with one mishap after another, until what every parent fears, disaster strikes…

A Northern Woods Novel

What’s your favorite part about the writing process?

Being able to work in my pajamas.

How do you go about choosing your characters’ names?

Character names usually just pop into my head. I look them up to make sure the first and last name is from the same country. It would look a bit odd if a first name was German and the last name American, unless of course it was a woman who married an American.

How did you come up with the idea for LOVE ON THE HORIZON?

Many people requested a book about Nick after they loved that sexy rancher in The Sunny Side of the Mountain.

What makes Love on the Horizon different from other books in the same genre?

Because I’m the author, of course.

LOL…nice one Charliann 🙂 What was the most surprising discovery for you about becoming a published author?

That I was able to become a published author.

In your own words, tell us about one of your favorite scenes from this book.

Nope, sorry.  Can’t tell – if I told you that, you’d be able to solve the special ending without reading it!

Oooh…nice way to get my curiosity up. What’s your current WIP?

I’m working on my third novel, Mountain Ridge, which should be out by the end of the year.

Now the 4:

You’re stuck in a day that will repeat over and over, like the movie GROUNDHOG DAY. Which day would you pick to relive?

The day my sweetheart and I ran into each other after 22 years apart.

Very romantic Charliann 🙂 Finish this sentence:  I’d run 100 miles in a bikini, eat worms, and do dishes by hand for a year if I never had to:

I’d never be able to run 100 miles in a bikini, I don’t wear one. I refuse to eat worms no matter what, and I already wash the dishes by hand. 🙂

You get to have a book a day sent to you for the rest of your life…do you want your reads sent in eBook format for your ereader or do you want it in print – paperback or hardcover?

Kindle, but only if I’m able to choose which books would be sent to me!

Before you’re born on this earth, you are given the option to pick your parents and the country you’d live in. Who would you choose and where would you live?

A loving, caring family in America who could afford to live in Hawaii!

Thanks for playing along Charliann…I had a great time and enjoyed your answers. Before we wave bye-bye..please share an excerpt from LOVE ON THE HORIZON and any special links you’d like to share.

“I guess we were the lucky ones, Art. We’d better get over to see if we can be of any help at the neighboring ranches, but first I’m going over to pick Nicky up from school. I don’t want Bess driving, in case any trees have fallen in the roadway, or power lines down.”

Nick pulled up in front of the Pinewood Elementary School and looked around. Everything seemed to be in place and there appeared to be no damage. Relieved, he opened the door of his truck and jumped out. He found no sign of a storm coming through here whatsoever. This area only received a light amount of rainfall. He smiled in relief, and walked into the school. When he entered the office, the receptionist glanced up from her paperwork.

“Mr. Colburn, what are you doing here?”

“I came to pick up my son.”

“But he left an hour ago.”

“What do you mean he left? You must be mistaken. My son is Nicky Colburn.”

She shifted uneasily and straightened some papers on her desk. “A woman was here fifty to sixty minutes ago. She said the storm had damaged your ranch, that she was related to your wife – her cousin I believe, and you asked her to pick Nicky up from school.”

He glared at her. “What did she look like?” he asked, as he tried to discipline the tone of his voice, now fully alarmed. “Mariah has no cousins.”

Thanks for joining us for 10 – 4  Tuesday Nancy!!!

Nancy:  I’m THRILLED to be here, Christine.  Let the Inquisition begin . . .

First the 10:

To start out, tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m ADD with OCD rising, which is probably why I’m celebrating my 25th year as a published author with my 53rd book!  I’m the mother of two sons, one who produced my wonderful grandson and the other who lives with me to lift heavy things. For the past 12 of those 25 years I’ve worked fulltime as a legal assistant to the same attorney in a small law office.  He and my co-workers think my writing career is the coolest thing ever and are tolerant of those occasional shrieks from my office when I get an call from my editor about a new sale. I’m a sucker for all things fur, feather and fin and feed an ever increasing menagerie from my 4th floor balcony. My idea of downtime is Netflix and a warm cat.

What’s genre (s) do you write?

I’ve written a mixed bag: historicals, series contemporary suspense, regency, paranormal and even horror screenplays! Currently I’m writing a dark paranormal shape-shifter series called “By Moonlight” for Pocket Books and am excited to have just gotten the rights back to over 16 of my out-of-print titles and have sold four of the contemporaries to BelleBooks for trade and e-book reissue in 2013! I love recycling!

betrayedShare your blurb from BETRAYED BY SHADOWS! ….which has been getting some amazing reviews…CONGRATS!

BETRAYED BY SHADOWS, “By Moonlight” Book 7

A good man drowning in bad deeds. A bad girl denying a good heart. Reluctant hero Giles St. Clair doesn’t need a problem like Brigit MacCreedy. Fleeing the retribution of her dead lover’s clan, Brigit is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her family . . . except trust the human who puts himself between her and her powerful enemies in a battle he can’t win.

What’s a genre you don’t write but would like to try?

I’ve got some interesting ideas for a couple of YA paranormal series.  I’m even tossing around a Second Gen series spin-off from “By Moonlight”!

Where do you prefer to write?

My home office at 5:00 a.m. with a cup of Keurig coffee at my elbow.

What’s the easiest part of writing for you?

Finding a story to tell.  I’ll never live long enough to bring all of them to light.  I’m a compulsive plotter and can stir up a series on the drive to a writer’s meeting.

What was your favorite and least favorite part about writing this book?

Getting the thumbs up to go ahead with it was the best thing. It’s been great to have carried this series to going on eight books.  Reining in the word count was the hardest thing to do. There were so many scenes I would have liked to have spent more time developing.

Why should we read your book?

Because once you pick it up, you won’t be able to put it down.  The dialogue, the action, and the plot are fast-paced, tense, exciting, and (surprisingly) funny, and will run away with you. Oh, and it’s pretty dang hot, too. It’s like sitting down in a movie theatre . . . the ride will be over before you know it.

What do you hope readers walk away with when they finish BETRAYED BY SHADOWS?

The unquenchable desire for more! Hopefully new readers will want to discover what came before (though don’t worry, the book stands on its own) and fans will have 5-27-13 marked on their calendar for Book 8.

Can you tell us a little bit about your current WIP?

PRINCE OF SHADOWS, book 8 in the series, is another Pocket Star e-exclusive that will be out on my birthday! The biggest change it the move in setting from New Orleans to Lake Tahoe, home of the Terriot clan.  I’m crazy about my dark, rowdy, tattooed, rock-and-roll prince Cale Terriot. Here’s a peek:

Held hostage until she chooses a mate , Kendra Terriot must play a careful courtship game when choosing from among dangerous Shifter heirs. As a prince in the House of Terriot, Cale knows with Kendra at his side he can be the leader his clan needs, but first he must learn to become the kind of man she desires. In a treacherous race for the crown, where weakness means death, to prove he’s not the beast his gentle beauty fears, the only way to win her trust could mean surrendering his throne. But the only way to win her heart could mean letting her go.

Now the 4:

Everything you write suddenly starts coming true and you want to use your powers for good…what would your next book be about?

I’d write myself in as the heroine of book 8 . . . oh, and there’d be world peace.

You’re stuck in a day that will repeat over and over, like the movie GROUNDHOG DAY. Which day would you pick to relive?

The day on Lake Michigan when my critique group was sharing a lake house.  We grilled out, plotted, drank – a few, got knocked down by waves, and watched a storm roll in after a fantastic sunset.  Great friends. Good times.  Laptop.  Perfect.

Sounds wonderful! All the restaurants in the world are closing down because every government has determined it’s healthier to eat “home” cooking….you have 1 day before they all close….how many restaurants would you visit and name the top 3!

K-Paul’s, La Bayou and The Coffee Pot in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The best of creole and Cajun!  After those three, I wouldn’t NEED to eat anywhere else! Sigh . . .

If you could compete on any game show—past or present—which one would you choose and why?

I loved the old Hollywood Squares with the original players like Vincent Price, Paul Lynde, Carol Lawrence, Tim Conway, Jonathan Winters, Lily Tomlin and Rose Marie. They were so talented and genuinely funny who cared if they won or lost.

Thanks for sharing your 10 and your 4 Nancy!  Please share an excerpt of your book 🙂

“I need a favor.” MacCreedy wasn’t one to mince words; Giles liked that about him.

“Name it.”

Silas passed him a piece of paper. “That’s my number in case of an emergency. Call and leave a message. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.”

Giles tucked the slip into his pocket. “Thanks, Mom. Everything’s going to be fine here. Go and enjoy all those things I’d be doing if I were in your place, and don’t give us another thought.”

Silas smiled. “That’s not the favor.”

“Oh. Thought I was getting off easy.”

The detective’s mouth took a wry twist. “Not hardly. I’d like you to keep an eye on my sister.”

“As pleasant a task as that might be, she’s a big girl who doesn’t look like she needs a babysitter.”

“Wrong on both counts.” Silas paced to the rail and Giles waited for him to continue. “I love my sister, but she is the most maddening female. Given a good or a bad choice, she’ll inevitably pick the bad one, whether it’s words or actions or men.”

Giles began to think that being a bad guy might have its advantages.

“She’s going to be staying here until I get back and have time to decide what to do with her.”

“Staying here?” Giles’s heart rate took a giant leap. “What kind of trouble could she get into?”

Silas gave a short laugh. “I don’t even want to think about it.” His shoulders rose and fell heavily. “That business with the attack on Max when his driver, Pete, was killed.”

Giles’s expression tightened. “What about it?”

“She was involved with the man behind it, maybe even encouraged him. Now he’s dead, and his family might be looking for someone to pay for it.”

“Ah. So you think they might come here?”

“I don’t know, but she’s worried, so I’m worried.”

It might have been a good time to tell Silas about the blood on her clothes and her skin. A good guy would have given up that truth, man-to-man, in a heartbeat. But Giles said nothing, knowing Silas would cancel his plans for his sister’s sake—and that would put him in the middle of a lot more drama than he was prepared for.

Another part of him whispered it might be a good time to look like a good guy in the lovely Brigit MacCreedy’s eyes by saying nothing. By being the one to protect her if trouble came her way.

“She’ll come to no harm here. You’ve my word on it. I’ll watch over her like a lion with a lamb.”

Silas took his hand in a firm clasp, warning, “She’s no lamb, Giles, and she’ll fleece you if she can. Don’t trust her for a second, and don’t let her out of your sight.”

What to Read Wednesday

WOW…it’s a new year…hard to believe 2012 is completely packed away and we are on the fresh new horizon of 2013! I don’t know about you, but I’m excited to start anew. I’m also excited because it’s time for WHAT TO READ WEDNESDAY! :)

As you know, there are times I like to shake things up and today is one of those “shaker” days. Instead of interviewing my guest today, I’m turning the floor over to her.

So, please help me welcome multi-talented, multi-published author Deborah Palumbo. And DeborahDEBORAH let me tell you that your book covers are AWESOME!

Christine, I’m really happy to be here with you. I want to whisk you and your readers into my vampire world today, but before I do, I want everyone to know I also write mystery and historical romance novels. Why so many genres? Because life isn’t just one genre!

FAST FORWARD NOW TO BOOK 3, THE BANISHED ONE: (18+) A sleepy little town has a secret: there’s a serial killer vampire on the loose.

Lucius, is still wreaking havoc on the sleepy town in Tower City, and since he’s supernatural he can’t be captured by normal police procedure.

A frustrated Lieutenant Welby refuses to believe that the one responsible for those dead bodies in his town, is a vampire; that defies logic. There’s got to be another explanation for those fang marks in the victims’ throats.

Welby remains a staunch disbeliever in vampires until a series of preternatural events and the coroner’s scientific evidence causes him to change his mind. Welby then follows the old town rumors right to Quentin, the father of all vampires and his gothic castle to enlist Quentin’s supernatural aid in capturing Lucius.

Will Quentin, the only one who can stop Lucius’ vampire tirades, help the Lieutenant or make him one of The Undeparted?

????????????????????????????????????????Will Quentin battle Lucius and send Lucius to the bowels of hell for eternity, finally ensuring that Cassandra is safe from her old beau? Will the old coal mining town be safe at last?

MY 9 BOOKS ARE AVAILABLE ON MY WEBSITE in ebook and paperback, AND on:
